M-Commerce / Mobile Commerce Web Design
M-Commerce or Mobile Commerce can be best described as the ability to conduct commerce using a mobile device such as a mobile phone, PDA, Smartphone, iPhone or iPod Touch. Further information can be found at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Commerce. In a world where technology is enabling us to work from any where, receive emails and information on any subject whilst driving, walking down the street or shopping. It is no surprise that we are getting to the stage where M-Commerce (Mobile Commerce) is about to take off. Similar to our E-Commerce Store solutions we also produce mobile phone/iPhone content such as Online M-Commerce stores and websites.
The Mobile phone has grown in technical capacity, originally designed for only voice, the current versions of mobile phones and iPhones are capable of running applications and handling all forms of data, from Video, text messaging (SMS), sound bytes and photos. The release of 2G phones (14kbps data transfer), 2.5G phones (64kb/s - 144kb/s data transfer) and 3G phones (384kb/s - 2Mb/s) have enabled people to be able to stream video off a website on their phone. An increase in screen size off the small devices such as that of the iPhone and the ability to connect from your iPhone to a wireless connection mean that iPhone compatible websites and M-Commerce is here to stay.
A new online shopping trend of "booking on the web for pickup later in stores" is evolving into a new concept. M-Commerce (mobile shopping) indicates a concept that is bridging the gap between virtual world and real world. The idea of being able to reserve a product, buy a product, compare products and browse the complete product range of a store off your mobile before entering the store is very cool. It’s not often a store catalogue can be placed inside your pocket.
The other nice thing about utilising M-Commerce from a customer perspective is the flexibility in being able to shop 24/7 whilst being mobile. Instead of walking past a concert poster druelling about attending, but knowing that you don’t have time to purchase the tickets or the memory to retain the web address, M-Commerce has the ability to capture the consumer at the very instant that they are willing to make a purchase. Having the flexibility to be able to buy anything online from any location with a mobile signal is an amazing progression in technology. Retail therapy has never been more mobile or flexible!
Do I need both an E-Commerce store and a M-Commerce store?
The nice thing about building an E-Commerce or M-Commerce store is that we can utilise the same structure to be viewed off either a large screen device or a small screen device.
When a customer travels to your website we know what device the consumer is entering the site from, this could be a computer, pda, iPhone or mobile phone. This enables us to build a small device compatible Web Design that tailors the content, so it can be easily viewed and downloaded off a mobile or iPhone. Similarly if we know the consumer is accessing the site from a computer we can program the content to be viewed off a larger screen. The flexibilty to be able to capture the mobile user and also the computer user is not only a point of difference to your competition it also brings the ease of shopping to the consumer.
Designing for a smaller screen is essential, to browse a large screen website off a mobile device is not the most pleasant shopping experience. Nothing will make the shopping experience tastier than your product range being seamlessly viewable off a mobile or iPhone screen, it enables a potential customer to discuss their future shopping purchase with friends at lunch or dinner. Certainly more than just a talking point, it makes home shopping mobile.

Japan takes wireless internet to warp speeds
In a recent article in http://www.webpronews.com Japan has taken wireless mobile internet to warp speeds. Japanese mobile phone carrier NTT Docomo, just achieved speeds of 250 Mbps (31 Megabytes/second) on 3G phones and hit a 5Gbps (625 Megabytes/second) via 4G Technology. It’s not going to be long before sitting in your car downloading a full HD DV quality movie on to an iPhone, 4G phone, or your wireless laptop is possible. What a cool way to make sure the ride for the kids is as smooth and funky as possible.
